These Cities Are Narrowing Their Home Supply-Demand Gap

Nearly 90% of major U.S. metros have narrowed the housing supply-demand gap by issuing more single-family building permits. Boulder, Colorado, showed the most progress with an 89% decrease in its housing shortage index. By Q2 2025, 45% of markets had a balanced index, up from 20% last year. Urban Honolulu still faces the largest shortage but has seen recent improvements.
